In 2016 Betsson signed with the Norwegian football team Avaldsnes. Norway has strict rules on gambling, and the Norwegian football Assosciation (NFF) threatened to stop all financial support to Avaldsnes if the deal was not dropped. Avaldsnes tried again in 2020 and entered into a deal with Betsson in 2021. The contract was not renewed for 2022.
The Norwegian footballer John Arne Riise was in 2018 a part of an illegal marketing campaign in Norway. Riise made telephone calls to Betsson customers. In Norway only Norsk Tipping and Rikstoto can offer and market money games. Betsson PR-manager in Norway, Joakim Ingebritsen, defended the marketing stunt with the claim that the phone calls were made abroad of Norway.
