History

Swedish entrepreneur Anders Ström founded Unibet in 1997 in London, initially offering telephone-based betting services. The website was introduced in 1999, followed by its listing on the Stockholm Stock Exchange in 2004. Unibet embraced mobile technology in 2005 with the launch of a dedicated platform. In 2016, Unibet Group Plc underwent a rebranding, becoming Kindred Group.

In 2022, Unibet faced challenges in Norway, where the regulator Lotteritilsynet imposed a daily fine of 1.2 million NOK on Unibet's owner, Trannel.
